The 20-Year-Old Builder Who Shocked the BGT Judges with an Unexpected Las Vegas Voice
When 20-year-old Wayne Woodward from Sutton in Surrey walked onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage, his thick, casual cockney accent immediately drew comparisons to British actor Danny Dyer. Working bits here and there in construction and singing at local pubs and weddings, Wayne brought a lighthearted, deeply endearing energy to the room. He jokingly went back and forth with his mother in the audience about whether he actually gives her rent money each week, and even had his phone ring mid-interview, resulting in him casually telling a girl, “Listen babe, I’ll bring you back, I’m on telly!”. However, nobody was prepared for what was about to happen once the music started.

The moment Wayne opened his mouth to sing, any trace of the casual Surrey builder completely vanished. He shocked the entire auditorium by unleashing a smooth, velvety, and incredibly mature swing vocal as he covered Frank Sinatra’s timeless classic, “The Way You Look Tonight.” His rich tone sounded like it belonged to a seasoned crooner from the golden age of Vegas rather than a 20-year-old construction worker. Wayne commanded the stage with effortless charm and a bright smile, completely sweeping the audience off their feet.
The judges were left completely spellbound by the massive contrast between his speaking and singing voice. David Walliams praised Wayne’s effortless charm, while Alesha Dixon admitted she was not expecting that soulful voice to come out of him, adding that he successfully transported the entire room straight from Sutton to Las Vegas. Amanda Holden confessed that she simply fell in love with his brilliant personality. Even Simon Cowell was completely won over by his immense star potential. Walking away with a clean sweep of four enthusiastic yeses, Wayne proved that true talent can be found in the most unexpected places.
